This Result Is Not Who You Are. You Are Still the Attorney You Set Out to Become.

  • Use a simple tool to stop the result from becoming your identity.
  • Separate who you are as a bar examinee from the attorney you still intend to become.
  • Replace “pass the bar” with a goal that carries you through the next sitting and into your career as a successful practicing attorney.

FOR ANYONE WHO JUST RECEIVED AN UNSUCCESSFUL BAR EXAM RESULT

The result arrived, and shock, fear, disbelief, and pain are all competing at once. Your mind is asking whether you’re smart enough, whether you studied hard enough, and whether you’re attorney material. And people want to know what you’ll do next before you have an answer.

In the Detox, you’ll:

A free two-page guide and worksheet from an attorney who failed the 3-day California bar exam and passed the next one.

Patrick E. White III, Esq.

I Failed the 3-Day California Bar Exam.

  • In July 2010, I failed the 3-day California bar exam. When the result came, it was horror, shock, fear, disbelief, and pain, all at once. I spent nearly a week in that state before I could even think about preparing again. None of that week was spent thinking about who I was or the attorney I wanted to become. All of it was spent on the consequences of the result.
  • Before my second attempt, I stopped studying like a desperate retaker and started preparing like the attorney I was becoming. I passed in February 2011 and went on to a nearly 15-year career as an award-winning employment attorney.
  • The Detox is what I would hand myself on results day if I could do it again.

California attorney · 15 years in labor & employment, class action litigation · 7x Super Lawyers Rising Star

Passed the February 2011 California bar exam. Retaker.

This Is What I Wish I’d Done That First Week.

What You’ll Do in the Detox

The Detox is not a study plan. It comes before one. Each step explains its purpose and gives you a short written exercise to complete on the worksheet.

STEP 3

This is not traditional bar prep, and it does not replace it. It is the work traditional prep never asks you to do: deciding who you are before you decide how to study.
